It is in the artist nature to transform objects. This transformation can be of the spiritual, political, philosophical, aesthetic, etc. In all cases, an object is chosen for its meaning, history, form. Inherent in its object hood are our associations, cultural baggage, and symbols. Artists often question these associations, bring perspective, or turn on its head these assumptions. The process involves adapting the object for a new purpose and working with what is there in its form or surface. Found objects aren't blank but rather come loaded with references and potential.
Below are some examples in which and artist recast the object.

Students will examine the intersection of form and surface
and question the relationship of symbology and function. Students are asked to enhance or change
the meaning of the object.
